Problems Solved

What this course fixes

Production loss from hydrate or wax blockage repeated each shutdown

Chemical injection rates set by vendor default rather than by system need

Severe slugging destabilising separators and compression

Restart procedures written without flow assurance analysis

Learning Outcomes

What participants can do after the programme

Outcomes are written as tasks, not topics — so managers can verify capability back at work.

  • Interpret multiphase flow regimes, holdup and pressure drop behaviour
  • Assess hydrate formation risk and select prevention or remediation strategy
  • Manage wax, asphaltene and scale deposition, including pigging strategy
  • Diagnose severe slugging and identify practical mitigation
  • Review a shutdown and restart procedure against flow assurance risk

Course Outline

Detailed programme content

Day 1 — Multiphase Flow Basics

  • Fluid characterisation, PVT behaviour and phase envelopes
  • Flow regimes, holdup, pressure drop and thermal behaviour
  • Steady-state modelling: what the model can and cannot tell you

Day 2 — Solids & Chemistry

  • Hydrates: formation, prevention, inhibition and dissociation
  • Wax, asphaltene and scale management including pigging
  • Corrosion, erosion and sand management interactions

Day 3 — Operations & Troubleshooting

  • Severe slugging, liquid loading and stability control
  • Shutdown, cooldown and restart strategy
  • Workshop: troubleshoot participant field cases

Practical Work

Practical exercises and case studies

Sessions are built around calculations, data interpretation and technical decisions. Case material is generic or anonymised — no client-confidential project data is used.

Hydrate formation risk assessment and inhibitor dosage estimation

Flow regime and pressure drop interpretation from multiphase model output

Pigging and chemical treatment strategy exercise for a waxy crude line

Shutdown, cooldown and restart procedure review against flow assurance risk

Trainer Profile

Delivered by Ir. Lim Chee Keong

Senior Trainer — Piping, Flow Assurance & API Standards

20 years industry experience

Chee Keong specialises in the messy middle of brownfield work — where drawings are outdated, the line is live, and the shutdown window is already booked. He teaches decision-making, not just clause numbers.

Real project exposure

  • Piping stress and support redesign after repeated flange leaks at a Gebeng chemical plant
  • Hot tapping and temporary repair strategy for a live utility header
  • Brownfield tie-in package reviews for an upstream gas processing platform

Certifications

  • API 570 Piping Inspector
  • ASME B31.3 Process Piping Practitioner
  • Caesar II Stress Analysis
