Course Outline
Detailed programme content
Day 1 — Materials for Cryogenic Service
- Low temperature behaviour: toughness, transition temperature and brittle fracture
- 9% nickel steel, austenitic stainless steels, aluminium alloys and Invar
- Code and standard requirements: ASME, EN 14620, API 625 and API 620 context
- Insulation systems, cold spots and corrosion under insulation in humid climates
Day 2 — Welding & Qualification Control
- Consumable selection and dilution control for 9% nickel and stainless welds
- Heat input, interpass control, magnetism issues and distortion management
- PQR and WPS essential variables for low temperature service under ASME IX
- Impact testing, ferrite measurement and hardness requirements
- Exercise: review a cryogenic PQR package and identify the gaps
Day 3 — NDT, Inspection & Integrity Management
- NDT method selection for cryogenic welds and thin austenitic sections
- Tank construction inspection, hydrotest, cooldown monitoring and settlement
- In-service inspection of tanks, cold boxes, vaporisers and cryogenic piping
- Damage mechanisms specific to LNG assets and their inspection response
- Workshop: draft an inspection plan for an ageing LNG storage and piping system

Sessions are built around calculations, data interpretation and technical decisions. Case material is generic or anonymised — no client-confidential project data is used.
